"Here’s to strong women: May we know them. May we be them. May we raise them."
We've been fighting for equality and women's rights for more than a 100 years. Although things have changed hugely in my lifetime - never mind since the early 1900's, the fight for an equal world is ongoing. I pray that one day we won't need to have these conversations surrounding gender equality, for a day where there is no discrimination, there is justice and the world is at peace.
Today is all about celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. I'm grateful for my friends, family, colleagues and role models who have inspired me, encouraged me and shaped me. Who have shared their stories and stood up for what is right. I'm also grateful for the men who celebrate both their own and others femininity and who create welcoming and positive spaces.
To my sister, Olivia and my auntie, Mandy, thank you for being so supportive and inspirational.
“Feminism isn’t about making women strong. Women are already strong. It’s about changing the way the world perceives that strength.” –G.D. Anderson
